Event Details

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1960, Carmen Agra Deedy emigrated from her homeland during the Cuban Revolution, a move that has profoundly affected her life and her work. Her stories reflect her dual heritage drawn from growing-up steeped in the riches of both Latin American and Southern cultures. Known for her razor-sharp wit and light, entertaining style, Carmen is a favorite of central Indiana audiences. Sponsored by Beth Millett

Storytelling Arts of Indiana

Storytelling Arts of Indiana was originally founded as Stories, Inc. in 1987. Since then, it has grown by leaps and bounds, but our mission remains the same: to promote the art and use of storytelling in everyday life. From local favorites to nationally-recognized names, Storytelling Arts has brought tellers from all walks of life to Hoosier audiences for over two decades. In addition to the full schedule of storytelling concerts, Storytelling Arts of Indiana also provides:

  • Weekly storytelling at Riley Children’s Hospital
  • Monthly as I Recall Storytelling Guild meetings at the Glendale Branch Library, Indianapolis Senior Center and the Hancock County Public Library.
  • Monthly Jabberwocky after-work events in collaboration with IndyFringe
  • Summer Performances in the Neighborhood Parks for children
  • A workshop for teachers, Using Storytelling as an Educational Tool: Teaching English/Language State standards through Storytelling Activities
